Ever have one of those throw in the towel kind of days? One of those days when you are just done with it all? Every once in a while the weight of the world seems just a little too heavy and all you want to do is crawl back in bed and just sleep it all away. Or perhaps you’re not the sleep it all away kind of person, but you’re just tired of fighting. Either way this week’s Music Monday is a song you really need to sit down for and listen to closely. There’s even a link to the lyrics at the bottom of this post so you can take them all in.
I’ve been there before. Probably not all that long ago if I’m being honest. At the end of one of those long, dirt roads of life. It wasn’t the road I was supposed to be traveling. It was a road marked closed, but I don’t always listen really well. I tend to do things my own way some times. Along the way I don’t really go sightseeing. I don’t stop to smell the roses. I just collect things along the way. I pick up rocks, bricks, heavy things, broken things and put them into my backpack. I carry them thinking that these are mine to handle. I think the weights of the world would be easier for others if I lifted a little more. I live like the brokenness of the world is my responsibility to fix.
And then it happens, with my backpack full of all of life’s problems, I hit the end of the path. I can’t figure out which way to turn. Nothing seems recognizable. Nothing is familiar anymore. At the end of this road marked with rough terrain stands an abyss of nothing. As far as the eye can see there’s nothing. It’s empty and void. No sign of life. No hope. No help. Just me and my backpack filled with brokenness. The very backpack that I was determined to carry.
At the end of this road is where the real choice happens. Where do I go from here? I can keep walking farther into this empty and barren land. Or I can stop and wait for rescue. You see the farther into this wilderness I travel, the more distant I become from the parts of life that are important. I walk away from those who are there to help me, from friends and family but more importantly I become distant from the only one who can make me found again – Jesus.
So nestled in the words of this song is a prayer for all who travel life’s road alone. If you don’t know where to go, fall on your knees. If you can’t see the road anymore, look for the one who is your only way. When you’re crumbling under the weight of your own stress and worry, fall on the one who carries you.
Sometimes you’ll have to stop and wait. Other times you’ll have to keep walking until the path becomes clear. But whether you lay down and wait or keep trudging forward don’t go alone. He’s never let you down before and He’s not about to start today.
When you’re at the end of the line and quitting is all you have left, here’s a little prayer.
I will trust in You
You’ve never failed before
I will trust in You
Remember sometimes all you need is a little time with Jesus. He’s never far. And he’s the only one who can turn your barren desert into a lush and vibrant land in just a snap!
